Just in case you didn't get the message from Rex Rowan, he has asked that everyone submit their June Challenge lists directly to him before midnight. Hopefully Miami will win this year! \ Here is an excerpt from his email: If you're participating in The June Challenge, please send me your results by July 1st (except for Alachua County birders, whose totals need to be in my inbox by June 30th because we have a big June Challenge party on July 1st!). I need your name, the county in which you did the Challenge, and the number of bird species you recorded, all in this format: "Total number of species (number of ABA countable species / number of non-ABA-countable species)." For instance, if I saw 98 ABA-countable species in Alachua County, plus Black Swan and Indian Peafowl, I'd report, "Rex Rowan, Alachua: 100 (98/2)." If you're not sure what's ABA countable and what's not, here's a link to the ABA checklist: http://listing.aba.org/checklist/abachecklist_v7.8.2.pdf Hybrids are not countable, captive birds are not countable, and birds that are not identified to the species level (for instance "tern sp.") are not countable. I will NOT be taking totals from Trey Mitchell's June Challenge web site - http://junechallenge.com/ - because several birders seem to have entered a handful of species and then stopped; I don't know whether they want those totals listed or not. So if you want your totals listed in the final tally, please email them directly to me. Remember that it's not too early for fall migrants. Alachua County has recorded Louisiana Waterthrush and Black-and-white Warbler in late June, as well as a handful of shorebird species. So don't give up yet! If you've got any questions, please email me at rexrowan@gmail.com
