Recently I drove to the gate at the end of Research Rd in Everglades National Park, in early evening. Meadowlarks were seen and heard all around and Bobwhites were seen and called repeatedly. Right after the sun went down, a Short-eared owl flew out over the raised earthen berm to the WNW of me.The owl flew along the berm edge and surrounding area for several minutes and then disappeared behind the berm. I have seen Short-eared Owls there in the past at dawn and dusk and they often favor the area around the raised earthen berms from the old Nike base.
