The behavior of the bird sounds a lot like the Key West Quail Dove last year. Perhaps what keeps bringing the dove back to the spot: "They often swallow fine gravel to assist with digestion." https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zenaida_dove Did anyone happen to see this behavior, out of curiosity?
