Heyyyyyy Birders! I’d like to remind everyone that the 100th Annual South Dade Bird Walk takes place tomorrow Saturday, January 30. I hope attendance is high but I’ll understand if it’s not; this bird walk is not for the weak. You will be asked to find cool birds and endure mind games and possibly verbal abuse. We will meet at 730AM at the Coe Visitor Center just inside Everglades National Park. We will spend a few minutes birding there and proceed to the Lucky Hammock/Annex area where we will hopefully rack up a bunch of species. Other places we may bird include the C-111E, Homestead Airport, and Castellow Hammock, where we will break for lunch. If time permits and we want to go big, we will continue to Dump Marsh, Black Point, and Cutler Wetlands. I remember, many moons ago, tallying up 107 species for this trip. I have not been able to replicate that and need your help in doing so. Bring lunch, water, layers (it’ll be a bit chilly in the morning), and your meds. Those who have scopes may consider bringing one in case we go to the places I mentioned above, after lunch at Castellow Hammock. Speaking of Castellow, let’s hope for “Mango” season, if you know what I mean. Now show up and don’t be scared, if you don’t see many birds you will at least have the pleasure of birding alongside me. But don’t worry, there will be birds. Me llamo Rock Jetty
