I stopped at Lucky Hammock between 5:00-6:10 this evening. Scissor-tailed Flycatchers and Western Kingbirds continue along SR-9336 before the turn for Aerojet Rd and Lucky Hammock. I parked in front of the hammock and immediately heard a Bell's Vireo on the west side of the road in the overgrown field adjacent to the southeastern corner of Lucky Hammock. It briefly made an appearance before darting into the foliage again. It was associating with a White-eyed Vireo. I walked down the dirt track that runs west from there and into the WMA. Swamp, Lincoln's and Grasshopper Sparrows were along the edge. Looking north towards the state road from here, I saw a single Lesser Nighthawk and a foraging White-tailed Kite before it became too dark. Lucky Hammock isn't the same one we remember from 10+ years ago, but I think Lucky Hammock deserves some attention again. Depending on my beer intake tonight while I camp with old friends inside ENP, I'll be up and out at Lucky Hammock tomorrow morning. Alex Harper back in Miami until March
