The C-357 Sparrow Fields held a bizarre mix of birds this morning, perhaps due to the very wet conditions. I flushed a total of three American Bitterns from the grass, as well as a single King Rail that flew straight across the raised berm. I heard about half a dozen more rails calling nearby in the wettest patches. Sparrows were not numerous. In fact, I did not have a single Savannah or Grasshopper Sparrow. There were many Swamp Sparrow, as well as singles of Lincoln's and Clay-colored. The highlight of the morning was a DICKCISSEL near the first bend. Happy New Year 2016 to all of you! Carlos
