During yesterday's Miami-Dade County Christmas Bird Count, birders had to deal with winds that blew steadily at 20-25 mph, making it difficult to find the birds. On Miami Beach, I managed to find the following 54 species: Muscovy Duck-17 Common Loon -1 Pied-billed Grebe--3 Northern Gannet-1 Brown Pelican-57 Double-crested Cormorant-210 Magnificent Frigatebird-7 Great Blue Heron-4 Great Egret-5 Snowy Egret-1 Little Blue Heron-1 Tricolored Heron-1 Green Heron-2 Black-crowned Night-Heron-2 White Ibis-10 Black Vulture-1 Turkey Vulture-20 Osprey-1 Red-shouldered Hawk-1 Common Gallinule-4 American Coot-2 Black-bellied Plover-150 Ruddy Turnstone-1 Sanderling-104 Laughing Gull-370 Rin-billed Gull-20 Herring Gull-1 Lesser Black-backed Gull-1 Forster's Tern-1 Royal Tern-25 Sandwich Tern-1 Rock Pigeon-166 Eurasian Collared-Dove-12 Mourning Dove-1 American Kestrel-1 Ruby-throated Hummingbird-1 Red-bellied Woodpecker-2 Eastern Phoebe-1 Loggerhead Shrike-3 Blue Jay-5 Fish Crow-130 Blue-gray Gnatcatcher-6 Northern Mockingbird-2 European Starling-270 Common Myna-2 American Redstart-1 Northern Parula-4 Black-throated Blue Warbler-2 Palm Warbler-37 Yellow-throated Warbler-1 Prairie Warbler-3 Common Grackle-18 Boat-tailed Grackle-52 House Sparrow-10 Full results for yesterday's count will be posted once I receive totals from all participants.
