Personally I use the Merlin app from Cornell, it's free for one, it can separate the birding regions in the US and it's going global, so you can get a bird pack for most of Central America and Europe by this point, and you can have an ID help feature which helps from time to time. Only big minus is that not all the ID pictures and sounds are perfect, it only covers the regularly found species, so no rarities, Bahama Mockingbird and Zenaida Dove are some examples, or invasives that are limited to the Miami area, like all of the parrot and parakeet species, are included. If you're willing to pay money, I'm pretty sure the Sibley app and others like it have better uses and availability in the US and Canada. But if I'm spending money on a ID app, I'd rather buy the field guide. Hope this helps.
