It can take some time to get hummingbirds to go to feeders. It helps if you have your yard planted with bushes and trees with flowers that they like. Ruby-throated Hummingbirds are a common winter visitor and the most likely one that we get down here. Just about ever Hong Kong Orchid tree in south Florida has them feeding on the flowers that bloom in the winter. In our yard, with have about half a dozen Ruby-throated Hummingbirds coming to our four feeders. Put small amounts of feed into your feeder until you see the hummingbirds empty them. Then add more as needed, be sure to change the feed about every 4-5 days depending on how hot or cold the weather is. The feed will start to turn cloudy when it goes bad. Hummingbird feeders are a nice way to see hummingbirds up close. We have one near our kitchen window and get great views of hummingbirds.
