Noah - Your photos on eBird are gorgeous. Congratulations! Your photos of the young male Rufous Hummingbird show the gorget very well and why the bird isn't an adult female. As Dr. Heath mentioned (see my post below), the adult females will have a central gorget patch of 5-10 feathers. Your photo shows the gorget starting to fill in at various spots. If you can provide a link to your eBird list, others can see these diagnostic photos. Thanks!
