Red-shouldered Hawk is the common resident hawk here in south Florida. In the rest of the country, Red-tailed Hawk is the common species. Red-tailed Hawks are resident here in south Florida but certainly not as common as the Red-shouldered Hawk. When my son and I did our June Challenge, we did find Red-tailed Hawk here Homestead and the western area of Miami/Dade County. Larry Manfredi
