Ken, when I was a kid growing up on a lake in pembroke pines, great white herons were very common on the shoreline. As I got older and moved away, I noticed they had grown scarce, and don't remember seeing them in broward again. With what I know now, chances are the bird(s) that I thought of common as a boy was probably just a single vagrant individual who's territory included my back yard for seven or eight years.
