I had the good fortune to be able to spend a few hours at Merritt Island
Wildlife Refuge before a meeting I had in Orlando Wednesday evening. It was a
beautiful afternoon. I saw most of the normal waders, several duck species, a
few shore birds and located one Scrub Jay for my year list.
I saw:
Shoveler
Pintail
Red-head
Lesser Scaup
Blue-wing Teal
Green-wing Teal
American Widgeon
Eurasian Widgeon (I think)
Mottled Duck
Mallard
Ruddy Duck
Bald Eagle on Nest
Red-tailed Hawk
Red-shouldered Hawk
Only one Osprey
Heard a Carolina Wren
Heard Palm Warblers
Blue-grey Gnatcatcher
Yellow Rump
Sandwich Tern
Black Bellied Plover
Avocet
Dunlin
Least Sandpiper
Western Sandpiper
Ruddy Turnstone
Spotted Sandpiper
Dowitcher
Willet
Scrub Jay
It was nice to get out for a few hours...
