Dear All:
After getting wonderful advice from the Board, I went with one of the suggestions of a lighter weight camera for ease of birding walks.
My new Nikon Coolpix S9700 is a what is termed a super zoom camera, which is lighter and less expensive although not as good quality as the SLR cameras, and has helped me identify some birds which I could not id in the field.
