From your description, I really don't think that the bird you saw was a Green Heron...Your description was very helpful, although if you want some guidance as far as things you should look for, let me know...I'm a herpetologist by trade, but I do know lots of field marks to look for in birds...I have to say that there are so many escapees and exotics in South Florida, indentification can be difficult (I'm from Tennessee)....For example, I saw some Common Mynas at Walgreen's in Homestead....Heck, I didn't know what to think when I first saw them...I hope you find out what it is...It's nice to hear from someone who is really excited about what they see...PS...What exactly is the Doc Watson House (I'm a big fan)?
