For 6 days now, I've had a pigeon joining in with the variety of white-winged, collared, and mourning doves that feed in my yard every day. A few days ago, while in my pool watching them, I noticed the pigeon is banded. I couldn't figure why a common bird would be banded, then when searching around online, found that there are 'pigeon racing' or homing clubs. I got my telephoto on the green band on the bird's leg, and confirmed AU 2013, as the main pigeon group (American Racing Pigeon Union) and pigeon's date year, and SCHE as the owner's code - coming up with someone in Miami. I also have the pigeon's number as 4912. The person under SCHE had no phone or e-mail listed so I couldn't make any notification, so I sent an e-mail to the American Racing Pigeon Union just to notify. Not much I can do really - it appears quite content to hang out on my roof and feed on sunflower seed every day. What's the right thing to do - let it be, try to contact the owner, try to trap it?
