I birded Lucky Hammock for about 40 minutes before going to work at Biscayne National Park. It was chilly and very windy.
I saw both birds for only about a second. I saw the Empid first after it was coming back from chasing an insect. As soon as it landed it saw me and disapeared. It was very green. I pretty sure it wasn't a least and if I was pushed for an I.D. I would lean towards an Acadian, but I really don't know. It had this hunched forward look that reminds me of an Acadian for some reason.
I rotated around the hammock to see if I could refind it and the Whip-poor-will flushed straight up in front of me and into the hammock. I think it was a female because I saw no white anywhere on the bird. There wasn't much else except for a few gnatcatchers and catbirds but I wasn't expecting the other two so I was happy.
Good birding,
Orion
