BCAS Treetops Park Field Trip 2/11/06
Nine species of warblers were seen this morning including Black-throated Green, a male Black-throated Blue, and a male American Redstart. Other bird highlights included Pileated Woodpecker, Blue-headed Vireo, and Indigo Bunting. A couple of beautiful Atala butterflies were seen along with a nice flight of White Peacocks, Gulf Fritillaries, Julias, and Zebra Longwings. There were a few dragonflies around but the only species seen in any numbers was Blue Dasher.
Most of the nature trail system at Treetops Park is still closed including the path to the boardwalk on the lake. Most of the equestrian trail system is open as well as the nature trails north of the visitor center. The north pedestrian gate was reopened recently allowing access to the Pine Island Ridge Natural Area from the park.
