Well it's Monday, and time for another threat to our dwindling county hammock/pinelands. This time there is a proposed zoning change to allow "mixed-use" including single-family homes in the 22-acre forest that borders Old Cutler Rd at the Palmetto Bay Village Center. This is an eBird hotspot, where Raul and I have seen at least 116 species so far. It's a nice bit of coastal forest that can be quite active during the spring/fall migration.

Anyone wishing to comment on this proposed change (or just to offer support) should consider attending the 7PM meeting tonight. Village Hall, 9705 E. Hibiscus St. Palmetto Bay.

This news has developed rapidly and I only learned about it today. Hopefully this forest can be preserved for all to enjoy.
