Dark Florida Gull

I was looking through Chris' pictures (see Roseate Tern post below) and noticed he had the bird in the linked picture identified as a Western Gull, which I understand to be unexpected for Florida. Are there any thoughts about this individual's identification? Chris, I hope it's okay that I posted this, I just thought that this is something interesting that should be discussed (and, unlike a lot of gull ID questions, we have a spectacular, close, and well-lit photo).
