I thought some people on this message board might be interested to know that there's a meeting this Sunday 7/20 to search for the rare Florida bonneted bat on the Granada Golf Course. Apparently, a roost for this species has only been found once, and although rare and endemic to South Florida the species just happens to be fairly easily seen on the golf course.
The meeting will be led by an FIU biologist, will take place from 8-10PM, and will begin at the intersection of Coral Way and South Greenway Drive.
Here's an article about the bat recently published in the Herald: http://www.miamiherald.com/2014/06/27/4205816/endangered-bats-find-haven-at.html
My fiancee and I often walk around the golf course at night, and sometimes we get to see bats (along with many yellow-crowned night-herons). You can hear them too.
Anyway, might be a fun opportunity for anybody looking to boost their mammal list. :)
