No, no, no! The most reliable way, and the only reliable way, to tell them apart is to see a Black-chinned adult male with PURPLE below the black on the chin. It's easy, in Arizona! With females and immatures you do what Klingon birders do: You Kill Them! Kapla!!
P.S. There's more dark meat on the Black-chinned than on the Ruby-throat. And Belgian Ale goes good with it too. Cheers!
