Predation is pretty brutal on least terns in broward. That seems to be one of the reasons they try new locations every year. The colony on the clubhouse roof behind my place that had been there for twenty years got wiped out 7 years ago by the hawks and has never been back. Skimmers used to nest on that roof also. The big colony on the home depot on 441 suffered the same fate. Even last years ft. Lauderdale beach colony got destroyed in less than one season. I had coopers nest in my yard a few years ago, they have big clutches, and they feed them all day. For all you coopers hawks apologists, our own ken schneider has prepared a wonderful film for you, it's called "horror at the burrow", and you can google it or see it at his blogsite, rosyfinch.com. I don't reccomend it if you love birds.
