I took the family to Key Largo to visit a friend and to have some lunch. After lunch we came back my way of 905 and Card Sound Road. We turned left at the T-intersection to head towards the toll booth which is about 3-miles from this spot on Card Sound road. On the right side or north side of the road about 200-300 yards from the T-intersection is a pond, there is a small half acre size Mangrove Island. On a branch in the water just north of this were perched two cormorants. One was a Neotropic and the other was a Double-crested Cormorant. This was a neat sighting as I saw both birds while driving and told my wife and son that it sure looked like a Neotropic Cormorant back there. I had to make a u-turn and go back to look, sure enough it was one!

If you are coming from the toll booth heading east towards Ocean Reef and north Key Largo, go about 3-miles. Just before the T-intersection is a sign that says 905 with an arrow left and an arrow right. Park here, the cormorant was on the left side or north side. The pull off here is very narrow so there is not a lot of room to park, there are guard rails on both sides of the road. There also is a lot of traffic here so you have to be careful. The photo I posted was using my phone through my binoculars. It is not the best but that is all that we had. We saw the bird at 3:30 p.m., I went back at 4:30 with a better camera and lens but could not relocate it.
