Wonderful report, photos and blog! Thanks very much for atlasing and entering your data online.
Yellow-crowned Night-Herons have nested in Crandon Gardens previously (this photo is 5/3/12) and they also nest in the magrove areas of Virginia Key but are difficult to photograph. I think there was confirmed nesting in Bill Baggs Cape Florida SP years ago when the mangrove forest started maturing. For some reason the Black-crowned Night-Herons only nest on Virginia Key.
Crandon Gardens is great for observing breeding birds such as Gray Kingbird, Red-shouldered Hawk, Anhinga, Common Gallinule, Yellow-crowned Night-Heron and others. Elizabeth Golden is working with my observations and photographs from Key Biscayne and Virginia Key for BBA II.
[There is a Ruddy Turnstone labeled as Killdeer in one of your photos.]
