Flamingo over Turnpike

Yesterday driving home to Fort Lauderdale from Orlando, I woke my husband just in time to see a flamingo fly over, heading east! Is that 'usual'? I've living in South Florida almost 20 years and have never seen a wild/flamingo in flight, it was so so cool :-) (no pics or video unfortunately as it happened so fast and I was driving)
