Hello,
I had heard there was a flock of Greater Flamingos at the end of Snake Bight trail in ENP.
I went super early in the morning to listen to Cape Sable Seaside Sparrow south of the turnoff to Mahogany Hammock. I heard about three singing birds. Then I went to Snake Bight and on the trail I saw and heard a bunch of Great Crested Flycatchers which are always nice. The highlight of the trail was a male Indigo Bunting, very brightly colored, who stayed aheard of me for a while. At the end of the trail, no flamingos but a nice variety of shorebirds. The ranger at the visitor center, Shauna, very nice lady, told me she had heard the same rumor last Thursday and went paddling out and didn't see them. Saw a shiny cowbird with the Flamingo flock of Brown-headed Cowbirds. Not a lot of warblers, like everywhere else. Ended the day at Paurotis Pond with the lovely Roseate Spoonbills, a Bald Eagle, Wood Storks, gurgle-singing Am Crows, jumping mullet, and a singing Black-whiskered Vireo in that parking lot. It was nice to see some old birding friends and make new ones too. So I have to thank the imaginary Flamingos- even though they weren't there their rumored presence was enough to get me out birding.
