So....the alarm clock goes off, and the wind is howling, there's sheets of rain, and lots of thunder and lightning. No way is there a trip today. But I am the leader, so I need to at least show up to formally call a rainout. I get to Barnes at 7:15 and, not surprisingly, no one is there. But then, several cars arrive...and with wind-driven rain, lightning, and 2" deep puddles around the cars, we're going to have a field trip. Yup, birders be crazy.....
But the rain dissipated, the lightning stopped, and the sun eventually came out. And while it was not a fall out, we did manage 11 species of warblers, including lots of newly-arrived Cape Mays, a Tennessee (always good in Spring), and a couple of BT Greens, including one spectacular male (my check is in the mail, Robin) that came down to petting distance.
Thanks to a great and devoted group of birders who joined me this morning, including the San Diego group!
