Spring migration in Cape Florida is quirky and today was no exception. Things started slowly, with low numbers of birds but good diversity. From 10:45-1:15 waves of birds came into the hammock area. Other than Hooded Warbler, the warblers were birds wintering in the West Indies and our expected species. Another wave of birds arrived after 2 PM, including buckets of American Redstarts, Black-throated Blue, Prairie and Palm Warblers.
There were 13 warbler species, Painted and Indigo Buntings and Black-whiskered Vireo. See Alex Harper's post, as he describes what also probably happened off of Cape Florida.
