I drive the beeline (sr710) in palm beach and martin counties about once a month, and the stretch between indiantown and okeechobee is rapidly becoming my favorite birding drive. Bald eagles are the feature here, there are a couple of dozen nests just to the west of the highway, I don'tkdon'tknow of a more concentrated group in south florida. Here are the highlights of that 30 mile stretch yesterday. 7 eagles, including 2 pairs on consecutive poles, 3 caracara, 4 sandhill cranes, pileated woodpecker, 2 swallowtailed kites, wild turkey, several soaring white pelicans, lots of storks, and an enormous dark phase redtailed hawk. In the past month or two I have also seen barred owl, harrier, wood ducks, and flyby spoonbills. I know, nothing rare, but a good number of enjoyable birds.
