This morning (3/20) I found a Bahama Mockingbird in the R. Hardy Matheson County Preserve. The bird was in a White Mangrove, .25 miles east of the gate. It's an adult with all the classic field marks: robust mockingbird with brown tones; 2 thin wing bars; "graduated" undertail; obvious malars; distinct flank streaks.
The bird was silent the entire time and rested/slept for 35 minutes before feeding in a fruiting Strangler Fig. I tied pink flagging tape on the fig tree.
This preserve is a great place to bird but parking is an issue. Park south of the bridge and carefully walk back north over the bridge and enter the gate. [recreationparks.net/FL/miami-dade/r-hardy-matheson-county-preserve-south-miami]
