Funny you should ask. I haven't had much luck with soras at Wako since pre-Wilma. I have a "field hunch" that they will return when the vegetation thickens and grows taller. Did you note that at the present "sparse" vegetation level the birds are much more vunerable to predation?

There is a marked decline in the number of coots/moorhens/gallinules at Wako pre-Wilma from post-Wilma. Question is; is that a result of death either direct or from lingering injuries or have the birds moved to better cover until vegetation returns.

As to the merlin, I also saw it the day I was there but it was perched on a pole on Lake Ida Road (airport road north side). So both Sunday and Tuesday means it might be "hanging" in the area.
