Beautiful last couple days out on the trails in Everglades.
:
: Visitor Center:
:
: King Rail
:
: Anhinga Trail:1/16
:
: 4 Yellow crowned night heron
: 2 Osprey
: 1 Short Tailed Hawk (light phase)
: 4 Woodstorks
: tricolored, blue, lil' green, great blue herons, great and snowy egrets.
: Pileated Woodpecker
:
: Although a few of you have said that you did not see many purple gallinules rest assured they are out there. Several juveniles were feeding on blooming willows this week. I did see at least three adults this week too.
:
: Also, at least one anhinga nest has hatched. Everyone is getting great views of them being fed and hearing them chatter away.
:
: The python/gator story in an early sighting report happened not this week but over christmas. First day report was on Dec.23, a couple days later the gator was seen with the dead snake drapping from his jaws. Presumably the gator ate it.
:
: Paurotis Pond:
:
: Several nesting Spoonbill and Woodstorks.
: Juvenile Vermillion Flycatcher
:
: Additionally, a Panther was sighted on the main park road yesterday night before the Royal Palm turn off.
:
: I will be heading to Dry Tortugas for a few days for work but will hopefully get to spend some time birding!
