Oddly enough, besides being mentioned in Robin's original post for a momentary lapse of reasoning, I can even contribute after Trey's question!

I have seen Mute Swans in NJ just off the beach in the Atlantic Ocean like in Robin's photo. It is native to Europe and Asia, being brought to the US in the late 1800's. It is considered an exotic in North America, and it can be quite numerous and controversial up north. Swan control programs are not unheard of. When they are nesting and have young present, they can be pretty nasty and aggressive. They have also affected local native species breeding, like tern and skimmer colonies. They can be aggressive towards Tundra Swans in the Mid-Atlantic States, driving them out of preferred wintering habitats.

Ok, I'll stop bashing them now. They are a quite impressive looking bird.
