It was even colder Sunday morning at ENP; at sunrise on Research Road it was a balmy 34 degrees--at least there was less wind than Saturday!
Birds were somewhat hunkered down early, but before I left park at 11:00 I had 7 species of warbler, including Louisiana Waterthrush at the small pond on Gumbo Limbo Trail. Also seen were Broad-winged Hawk (perched in pines along road near Boy Scout Camp), N Harrier, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, LOTS of waders feeding near Anhinga Trail (12 Wood Storks, 100+ White Ibis, 50+ Little Blue Herons, Glossy Ibis, Snowy Egret), Savannah Sparrrow.
A brief drive around Old Cutler wetland site netted 1 Blue-winged Teal, 5 Shovelers and 2 Pintail among 20 or so Mottled Ducks.
When I was home in my yard that afternoon, an immature dark phase Short-tailed Hawk circled low overhead; it was good that it was so low becuse the immature will send you scrambling for a field guide!
