: Daria,
: I have two dozen chestnut-fronted macaws that roost in the neighborhood palms. I haven't a clue what to offer them at a feeder. They seem to disdain the sunflower seeds and corn that the Aratingas go for. You said that lady went through 50 lbs a week. 50 lbs of what? Also do you have building plans for a macaw-size nest box? How high should it be?
: Macaw nest site plans can be found at www.duke.edu/~djb4 or e mail Donald Brightsmith at djb4@duke.edu or from Janice Boyd at the Los Amigas de las Aves in Costa Rica. We just put our first yesterday. If the blue and golds use it I'll donate the box to anyone who wants to put one up as long as it's in a place that poachers can't get to. I'd first try large parrot mix from any pet supply store and watch what they eat from the mix. It could be that they don't feel secure at the feeder. The b&g prefer an open tray at least 6 feet off the ground that is in an open area. Please fell free to contact me via e mail.
: Steve Siegel
