Spent some time in Everglades National Park after dusk to do some photography and found two Lesser Nighthawk at two locations.
The first was about 0.3 miles down the road to Mahogany Hammock. The second was at the very western end of Research Road, just past the research centers. Both birds were sitting on the roads.
Also encountered were Black-crowned Night Herons, Least Bittern, Limpkins, and King Rail. All but the night herons were heard only.
Snake and amphibian activity was high for February; however, the only marquis snake species was a Striped Crayfish Snake. Banded, Florida Green, and a large Brown Water Snakes, Peninsula Ribbon, Eastern Garter, and Florida Cottonmouths were also encountered.
