Nine enthusiastic photographers sporting numerous brands of equipment joined Trey Mitchell and me today for the annual TAS Photo Field Trip in Everglades National Park. We started at Anhinga Trail, where the early morning light made for good shots of an American Bittern and numerous Purple Gallinules. Next stop was Long Pine Key, where we tallied Brown-headed Nuthatches and a pair of Downy Woodpeckers, though the tall pines made tight photography difficult. Paurotis Pond produced several close-up Roseate Spoonbill flyovers. On the way back, at Mahogany Hammock, a Barred Owl fly-in at the big West Indian Mahogany tree provided the day's highlight.
