With Field Trip Leader Brian unavailable to make the trip, it was up to us to keep an eye on things as TAS joined Audubon of The Everglades for a joint trip to STA1-E in western Palm Beach County. Early morning fog gave way to a lot of sunshine and plenty of good birds. We enjoyed some killer looks at a completely unexpected Yellow Warbler, a very patient Grasshopper Sparrow, and an American Bittern 15 feet away that thought he was invisible. We found most of the expected ducks and waders, saw plenty of Snail Kites, and very good numbers of terns (including several Gull-billed).
We made a post-trip run over to Sem-Chi Rice to look for Yellow-headed Blackbird, but dipped. We did add a few more species, though, to our day list. Our STA list was right at 70 species.
Thanks to Linda and everyone at Audubon of the Everglades and South Florida Water Management District!
