I visited the above park yesterday only very briefly as it started raining shortly after my arrival. The Rufous Hummingbird was seen and heard right at the Orchid Tree. I only saw one, but looked only briefly. I was surprised on arrival to see a beautiful male American Kestrel perched on top of the Purple Martin house near the entrance of the park. The overcast was heavy, but there was enough light to show off the stunning pattern and coloring of this beautiful bird perched relatively close. Usually it is seen perched high on a wire and does not afford the great look I got. Other birds were: Prairie Warbler, a male Black-throated Green Warbler, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, six White-winged Doves, three Painted Buntings and multiple Ruby-throated Hummingbirds. The small butterfly garden has improved paths throughout allowing better views from within. There is a birdfeeder along the one of the paths as well as by the sheltered picnic table. Both had Painted Buntings feeding at them. Other common year round birds were present as well.
