Sorry for the late post, but I have had little time or energy, due to 12 hours on the road birding on the Coot Bay CBC Saturday, December 31, 2005, 17 1/2 hours on the road birding on Sunday, January 1, 2006 and preparation for the first night of school today.
I covered Coot Bay itself by canoe with Jeff Weber on the Coot Bay CBC and our highlights were dark and light morphs of Short-tailed Hawk, 1 Worm-eating Warbler, 1 Cuban Yellow Warbler.
Highlights of the New Year's birding, with my best buddies,Kevin Sarsfield, Joe Barros and Juan Villamil, were several Horned Grebes south of the drawbridge going into Merritt Island N.W.R. refuge, a white morph Short-tailed Hawk in a kettle of Turkey Vultures over the Indian River, American Avocets, Hooded Mergansers, (3)Canvasbacks, and Bonaparte's Gull on Black Point Wildlife Drive and Common Loons, a Greater Shearwater, Great Black-backed Gull, White-winged Scoters and a Pomarine Jaeger harassing the gulls and terns at Playalinda Beach on the Canaveral Seashore. We finished with 102 species for the day.
Life is good.......................... and may y'all have a healthy and prosperous New Year!
