Overall, despite the "slow" birding commented upon by many observers, the Kendall CBC recorded 128 species, plus 1 "Count Week" bird. This includes several new species to the Count, including Clapper Rail and the Matheson LaSagra's Flycatcher. 2 Chipping/Clay-colored Sparrows were also found at the Zoo. In addition, we had 15 species of exotics. A full list follows, with numbers recorded. Each group was able to contribute one or more birds that no other group found, which helped us reach a good total in a lackluster wintering year. For my part, I ll remember being out after twilight, and having one of the Barn Owls we were watching go shooting by right in front of us, in complete silence.

The Kendall CBC always falls the weekend before Christmas, right between the Miami and Coot Bay CBCs, and only days after Long Pine Key CBC. Birders can be hard to round up, and those that do participate deserve specific recognition. So, thanks to everyone who participated: Stephen Paez, Dany Garcia, Miriam Avello, Rangel Diaz, Trey Mitchell, Laurie Householder, Raul Urguelles, Jack Crittenden, Alyssa Crittenden, Jeanette Alvarez, Robin Diaz, Brian Rapoza, Jeff Weber, Miguel Padura, Annette Padura, Joe Barros, Edith Einspruch, Patricia Weber, Richard Hoffman, Chris Sanchez, Roxanne Featherly, Frank Ridgley, Mike Perez, Kresimir Golenja, George Smith, Dolora Batchelor, Ezequiel Bugallo, Lissette Casanova, and Stephonis Casanova.

Thanks also to Daria Feinstein and Jeanette Rawlings for sending in their feeder counts for the Count. Hopefully, next year we can get more feeder watchers to participate!

Special thanks also to Karen Solms and Chris Sanchez at Deering Estate for allowing us access to their property, and to Dr. Frank Ridgley at Zoo Miami for organizing volunteers there and allowing us access to all of the zoo property, as well as covering Thompson Park. It should be noted with thanks the great cooperation and support we receive for the CBC from Fairchild Gardens, the Deering Estate, and Zoo Miami.
