You picked two well respected models. After you have read the helpful educational info on the Eagle Optics website, check out the Better View Desired portion of Simpson Optics website. And, late last year (Nov. 2001?), there was a pretty good evaluation of mid-range ($150-$500?) binoculars in Consumer Reports. They rated the Swift Audubon a best value, as I recall.

Using a few on-line search engines to look up sources to buy from, I found an outfit in Stuart, Florida, with a very nice selection in their catalog, but it turns out the shop is never open when I drive by (I am typically in Stuart, to visit family, on holidays and Sundays). So I have no idea if the entire line is in-stock at the Stuart shop on Old Dixie Highway. If I can find the shop's name again, I will post it here as a follow-up.

Jet's "Florida Outdoors" is a very nice outdoor supplies shop on the south side of Bird Road in Miami (between the Turnpike and State Road 826), but they show too few binoculars (12-15 models?) to satisfy my desire to try out as many as possible. Lots of higher-end European brands too, though a bit expensive for my wallet.

Eagle Optics, and most other reputable dealers who sell on-line have 30 day satisfaction guaranteed trial periods, but that is not the same as trying a bunch of different models out side by side. In a nut shell, you missed a rare opportunity when you missd the Eagle Optics event hosted by Tropical Audubon. I am trying to arrange to host another Eagle Optics demo here in the Keys, at a joint meeting of Florida Keys Audubon and Florida Native Plant Society. Shooting for next January at this point. Good luck.

: Hi,

: I was wondering if anyone could tell me a good place to
: shop for binoculars. Unfortunately I couldn't make it
: when the representative from Eagle Optics was in town.

: I'm specifically interested in trying a pair of Swift
: Audubons and/or Eagle Optics Rangers.

: I'm located in Sebring, but I'm willing to drive down
: to the Miami area if I can find a place with either of
: those. However, any place in Orlando, Tampa, Gulf
: coast (from Naples to Bradenton), or Melbourne would
: also work.

: Thanks,
: -Keith
