Larry Manfredi and I did the Coastal Prairie Trail portion of the Coot Bay CBC this morning. We started before 6:00 am. Like last year, Black Rails could be heard calling at sunrise from the prairie just as you exit the hammock trail. Farther north we found good numbers of Nelson's Sparrows with some Saltmarsh Sparrows mixed in. They were very cooperative and allowed for good comparison and even some ID shots. Here is the list of species tallied:
