Thanks Brad, I believe that Jeff, & Bill B concur. This is an example where photography is a great asset. I did not even study the picture in my haste to get the images out asap.
In the field we all felt that it was a Swainson's Hawk. For me it was the flight of the bird which seemed to be a dihedral as it flew head on towards us, such that I initially thought harrier.
