I arrived at the sparrow fields this morning at 6:30am hoping for some owl action but no luck. As sunrise kicked in there were Savannah Sparrows hopping around but not as many as January of this year. I finished the morning at 9:30am with four sparrow species but they sure made me work hard.
Savannah Sparrow - 7
Swamp Sparrow - 2
Grasshopper Sparrow - 2
Lincoln's Sparrow - 1
At Castellow I was hoping for a rare wintering record of something like Blackpoll Warbler or preferablly a year bird like Philadelphia Vireo but it was slim pickings. I did relocate two Rufous-hummingbirds at the Hong Kong Orchid Tree.
Black-throated Green Warbler - 2
Summer Tanager
Northern Parula
Prairie Warbler
American Redstart
Eastern Phoebe
Rufous Hummingbird - 2
Ruby-throated Hummingbird - at least 3 but most likely more
