A terrific group of birders made yesterday's Long Pine Key CBC a huge success.
We tallied 123 species plus 4 extras for count week. DUCK species = 8, including Gadwall, American Wigeon, Northern Pintail and Hooded Merganser; SHOREBIRD species = 13, including American Golden-Plover (2), American Avocet, Pectoral and Stilt Sandpiper; WREN species = 4, including Sedge and Marsh; WARBLER species = 17, including Orange-crowned, Black-throated Blue and Green, Worm-eating and Northern and Louisiana Waterthrush.
Other highlights: Lesser Nighthawk (2) and Vermilion Flycatcher. Only misses: White-tailed Kite and American Goldfinch.
We all appreciate Dick Cunningham's efforts to begin this count in 2000. Many, many thanks to all the participants.
