Dealing with a fairly bad cold since yesterday, I have had barely any time to bird this weekend. I managed to get out of the house for about thirty minutes to walk my dog around the neighborhood.
Short-tailed Hawk- dark morph over the house
Sharp-shinned Hawk- male over the house
Northern Parula- male
Black-throated Blue Warbler- female
Also in the past week or so at school and the immediate area:
Cooper's Hawk- school
Merlin- NE 2nd Avenue in Little Haiti
Herring Gulls- seen daily in afternoon flying east towards the bay. I have seen mainly juveniles but some adults mixed in with hundreds sometimes thousands of Laughing and Ring-billed Gulls
Blue-crowned Parakeets- seen daily
Yellow-rumped Warbler- a couple seen almost daily; mostly flovers
Palm Warbler- daily
With all the very cold weather up north I think we may experience more ducks, gulls, and sparrows in late December and January. I will most likely be spending two days in Brevard County over Christmas break, including a day birding with fellow young birder Andy Bankert. I will let all of you know whats going on up there.
