Paul Bithorn and I birded the Annex in south Miami-Dade and A.D. Barnes Park in Miami. The main target was the male Townsend's Warbler at the Annex. We arrived at 7:00 and met two other birders already on the search. It took until 9:30 to find the Townsend's Warbler in the vicinity of where it was initially found. Three of us got poor but diagnostic looks. Also at the Annex were Least and Brown-crested Flycatchers, Blue-winged Warbler, Orange-crowned Warbler, Magnolia Warblers (2), and Northern Waterthrush (2).

At Lucky Hammock, Paul and I quickly relocated the Wilson's Warbler as a dark-morph Short-tailed Hawk descended low to check us out.

We made our way north to Cutler Wetlands, finding Blue-winged and Green-winged Teal, Roseate Spoonbill, Greater Yellowlegs, many Long-billed Dowitchers. The most interesting sighting here was a man sunbathing face down beside the muddy shoreline, which was off putting.

A quick stop at Dolphin Mall bestowed three Purple Swamphens.

Activity was still high at A.D. Barnes around noon. At Homeless Hammock and the pool area accommodated a number of wintering passerines: Yellow-throated, Blue-headed and White-eyed Vireos, twelve species of warblers (including Nashville), Summer Tanagers (3) and Baltimore Orioles (4). I believe there may be two Nashville Warblers at Barnes; I saw one at Homeless Hammock and soon thereafter one near the pool.

We swung by Coral Gables afterwards to track down a couple White-winged Parakeets before calling it a day.

A Short-tailed Hawk, White-eyed and Monk Parakeets greeted me as I made my way back into Miami Shores.

Alex
