I will try again. Many years ago in January I was walking acroos the University of Miami campus and heard the distinctive "beep" of a common nighthawk.This was certainly a surprise so I scanned the skys with no luck. I heard the sound again andthen noticed a mockingbird perched on top of the Whitten Student Center. It repeated its perfect immitation of the nighthawk again for me.
I have never seen a nighthawk here this late, but nothing about the birds of south Florida surprises me anymore.

: The funny thing is that I could have sworn I heard a common nighthawk in S. Miami (near Sunset Place)this past Sunday. Didn't see it though but the call was unmistakable.
